Proud member of the BC RIVER OUTFITTERS ASSOCATION and Whistler's original river outfitter since 1984.
SINCE 1984, WHEN WE FIRST PUT OUR OARS IN THE WATER, Whistler River Adventures has been introducing guests to some of the best river runs on the planet. Avid paddlers, fishermen and thrill-seekers trek from around the globe to experience the unique combination of rapids, scenery and wildlife that only this area can offer.
Brian Leighton, Owner & Operator, founded Whistler River Adventures in 1985 following two years challenging many of the top rivers in British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest. White water rafting seemed to be an obvious activity to offer during Whistler's summer months.
Brian pioneered commercial rafting on most of the rivers that his company now offers and acted as a primary resource when the Province enacted the Commercial River Rafting Safety Act. Whistler River Adventures is a long time member of the B.C. River Outfitters Association and Brian is a former director.
The Leighton family members are keen rafters and anglers who annually drift rivers together for excitement and to access fly fishing opportunities. During the winter months, Brian and Chris both enjoy the tremendous skiing on Whistler and Blackcomb with Brian working as the resort’s Safety Manager, and Chris working for a local ski club.
Brian attributes the success of the company to the commitment he receives from his wife, Chris, who manages the office and marketing duties during the winter months. Brian and Chris have been residents of Whistler since 1974.
THERE IS A CERTAIN CONFIDENCE exuded by our experienced guides. They’ve worked these rivers a thousand times in every condition imaginable. They can regale you with stories of local flora and fauna, but they are also acutely aware of what’s around the next corner. There is something innately comforting about knowing you’re in good hands.
All of our guides are certified as Guides, Senior Guides or Trip Leaders according to British Columbia's stringent Guide Certification Program. Our guides have extensive first aid training and are passionate about their work, returning year after year to be on the river. When not busy guiding, they are often kayaking on many of the local rivers. During the winter months many guides work for Whistler Blackcomb Mountains as ski patrollers, or journey south to raft year-round.
